Ahmed Hussien has inspired some of the best known Middle Eastern dancers & instructors in NYC and throughout the USA! Ahmed is trained in Classical Ballet, Egyptian Folklore & he is the ONLY Egyptian to be a Ballroom Champion! He is the first Egyptian Dancer to claim NYC as his home ..Yousry ( Ahmed) Sharif was to follow him a few years later ..Ahmed assisted him and gave him his start in NYC. As a young man Ahmed Hussien studied and graduated from the Higher Institute of Egypt. While in Egypt, Ahmed toured the world with the National Cairo Ballet of which he was principal dancer!
He came to the United States at the age of 18 years. Among some of his credits is choreographer to the hit Broadway show “Oh Brother” while teaching Oriental Dance throughout the US. He has performed at Lincoln Center as well as touring the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and South America teaching workshops and seminars in Middle Eastern Dance.
Ahmed has owned and operated dance studios in NYC and presently owns and operates dance studios in Florida. He is NDCA Certified and is co-owner of The Virginia State Dancesport Competition.
Ahmed Hussien is well versed in the many forms of Middle Eastern Dance such as classical, folkloric, baladi/sha’abi and much more. He continues to tour not only the United States, but Europe and South America teaching workshops and seminars. Ahmed has been focused on ballroom dancing in the last decade but we are so delighted that he is returning to his roots and his first love which is Egyptian Dance, Raks Sharki or Bellydance !
He frequently teaches bellydance in NYC and currently travels globally to teaching engagements with Nourhan Sharif. Ahmed is the Artistic Director of the Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance in NYC & in 2012 he will present Soroya of Egypt to NYC for the first time with Raqia Hassan !
